Meet the yardies and advisors
Deborah
The cooperative leader
The only leader the yardies will trust. Deborah went to prison for joining the climate rebellion and blocking the construction of an airport. After gaining experience in organizing, she had the idea to use business and shipbuilding cooperatives as a form of direct action against extractivism in ecology and labor. She now leads the shipyard operations team.
Haast
The ship captain
Haast – Forever itching to get back at sea, Haast is a captain who does things “his way.” While many ships are lost without the most advanced equipment, Haast can conquer any storm with a bit of elbow grease! Few captains are held in such high regard by their crew as Haast. Many fledgling sailors eager to earn their sea legs would leap at an opportunity to sail with Captain Haast… not just for his competence but for his generosity. At times, Haast is resistant to change at the shipyard, favoring the old ways over progress.
Camille
The testing engineer
Camille, the testing engineer, knows the shipyard like the back of his hand. He can often be found tinkering with various problem areas throughout the shipyard. Be it a broken hand-rail or a cart’s squeaky wheel, Camile has a clever solution for seemingly everything…and nothing is beneath him when it comes to being fixed! Though a lifetime of handiwork, Camile has developed an uncanny ability to foresee coming issues and repairs.
Maelle
The shipyard cook
Maelle – Through the power of food, Maelle is a bountiful source of information…as even the most hardened sailor will open up after a stomach full of Maelle’s buttery Sea Biscuits! Maelle uses their exceptional cooking ability to bring a sense of home and community to the shipyard. Many unlikely alliances have been formed in the light of Maelle’s hearth. Often, she is so concerned with feeding everyone else that there is little left at the end of the day for herself. She can often be found trading with passing ships, hoping to find top quality ingredients for her next epic meal.
Voltairine
The anarchist welder
Voltairine – A master welder and true anarchist at heart, Voltairine gushes over the Eight Cooperative Principles whenever possible. Though their long-winded lectures can lead to earaches… there is simply no one better with a torch and solder! Voltairine is a perfectionist with a keen eye for detail and they ready to jump into action at a moment’s notice. Be it a faulty beam or social unrest, they are not afraid to be the first to bring attention to a problem. They are a fierce friend who would do anything to aid those within their inner circle.
Yuna
The finance nerd
Yuna, the enthusiastic financier, is a savant when it comes to numbers… more specifically, ecologically focused “green” finance. In finding funds for the shipyard, Yuna ensures it’s the right sort – and not something that is going to exploit others or hurt the planet in the future! Friendly, selfless, and creative, she is eager to help even if it means putting some of her own projects on hold. When not extrapolating complex equations on how to improve the shipyard, she can be found zipping around the docks on her art-decorated wheelchair.
Eluci
Security specialist
The ever-loyal Eluci is a specialist in preventing and identifying potential security risks and workplace accidents. When not busy yelling at the yardies to put on a helmet and safety shoes, they can often be found optimizing security cameras to provide maximum coverage. Eluci cares deeply about the Yardies and will do anything to prevent harm from corporate sabotage. Eluci can often be found greeting newcomers to the shipyard at the gate.
Senara
Visionary ship designer
Senara – The head of the Wind Propulsion Laboratory, Senara buries herself in her work. Few are as essential to the shipyard as Senara, as much would have not been possible without her brilliant mind.Experimentation and innovation are what drive her to sketch mountains of drafts. When not developing new ships, Senara can be found quieting her mind through meditating and often talks about the creative power of lucid dreaming. Senara finds much of her inspiration through studying nature itself and she prides herself in finding eco-friendly solutions to better her designs…and through her creations – the world itself!
